Simple Page Ordering: How to Organize WordPress Pages with Drag & Drop

In the past, we have shown you how to arrange WordPress posts and other custom post types using drag & drop. While pages would certainly qualify as custom post types, that plugin doesn’t cover pages. In this article, we will show you how to re-order and organize WordPress pages with drag and drop using simple page ordering.

First thing you need to do is install and activate the plugin called Simple Page Ordering. Once activated there are no settings for this plugin. Simply go to your Pages menu, and start ordering your pages by dragging and dropping them.

Why is this plugin so useful?

This plugin is extremely handy, and we are using it on WPBeginner. You can see it listed in our Behind the Scenes section of our blueprint. We actually used this plugin to create our Blueprint page.

By default WordPress lets you order pages under the page attributes section.

Back when WordPress did not have the awesome menus, developers utilized this page ordering function to order their menus. However, it was a big pain. Let’s say you ordered your pages 1-10 respectively. Now if you wanted to change the order, you have to modify other page orders as well. Simple Page Ordering plugin makes that job very easy.

The main use for this plugin that we can see now is organizing your sub pages list. For example our Blueprint page is a parent page. All the plugins listed there are sub pages of the Blueprint page.

This plugin is NOT for ordering pages to use in your menus. WordPress menus are quite capable of doing that on their own.

We hope that you find this article useful, and you will use Simple Page Ordering plugin.
